I thought the book was okay, just not my normal reading material. It was kind of like getting onion rings when you wanted fries - okay every now and then but not all the time. I've never been a fan of the "G.R.I.T." lit: Fried Green Tomatoes, Whistle Stop Cafe, etc.
The book I'm currently reading is also set in the South, but this time the locale is Arkansas. I'm reading On Tall Pine Lake. I picked it up at BAM for $4 thinking it looked like a book my mom would like. Since it was set in Arkansas, I thought I'd read it before I passed it on to her. It hasn't been that good so far, but I'm only about 70 pages into it.
Better head to church...
